Yes, you read it right. It is not tablet PC but TABLE PC. Just when Apple and other gadget manufacturers are crafting new technologies to make computers smaller, Microsoft takes a different path and creates gigantic computers. The table PC is the 2nd generation Microsoft Surface unit and named SUR40. The company introduced this innovation 10 months ago and is now open for presales. The price? A whopping $8,400!
Microsoft, together with Samsung, opens its doors for preorders in 23 countries. The unit is soon to be released early next year. First featured in the Consumer Electronic Show last January, this large scale computer is multi-touch with powerful processor and improved system software that promises better performance and accuracy. This table PC can be mounted horizontally or vertically. It can be hung on walls with no problem.
Its multitouch features are powered by Pixelsense with 2 million sensors that can recognize infrared and visible light. We might not see these table computers in most homes because it is geared towards the corporate and business market. With the price of $8,400, it is surely a technology investment to think twice about.
The SUR40 already have some clients on their list. These include Sheraton Hotels and Resorts, the Royal Bank of Canada, Fujifilm, Red Bull and Dessault Aviation.

At least this is for the business market. I suddenly imagine families during lunch or dinner looking at their table PCs instead of eating their plate. 🙂
