Ok it seems that my topic for the week involves designing a blog , I would like to discuss today tips where you can design your blog, This will involve WordPress Tweaking and making your new blog and design . I will also mix Design Tips with an SEO tips so that those pages will be optimized.

You can check your web design if it is compliant to a well know web design standard by checking some design issues that was shown in w3.org.

Designing Your Category Pages

We know that a Category Page produces a duplicate content within our Website. And we also knew that duplicate content is not healthy in our blog. So by knowing this basic SEO idea we can design our category page in a way that We can show to our visitors our category pages in a manner that it can easily be navigated and at the same time Search Engine Crawler Friendly.

So the best way to do this is to change the way our category page shown to visitors and Search Engine crawlers. I would like to teach on how I made my category pages which only shows the Permalink of the post including the the other category where the post belong. I have leave that dates so that my readers will know when I made the post. Although in the Post Pages I have decided to remove those dates since I believe that most of my page is Time Less. ( ehem )

You may copy my new codes if you want to copy my new category Pages Design. I am experimenting on the H Tags that is why I have replaced it with H2 rather that H1. Since I would like to optimized the category page name as H1. If this will not succeed I will replace them again with h1. I have also change rel tag from bookmark to follow . I am just testing it.

This is another experiment in this blog. I know that by doing this I can direct the Search Engine Crawler directly to the post and not only part of the post. There is also a possibility of having an increase of post page views that will also increase of possibility of having Targeted Visitors. It will also prevent the issue of duplicate content since it will not show any content in Category Pages , Search Pages and Tag Pages.

I have also modified my robot.txt during implementation of this experiment and remove restriction in my Category pages and tag Pages. [ Disallow: /category/ & Disallow: /tag/ ].

I have strong feelings that this will succeed. It will increase an index page of my site without having problem with duplicate content. This will have a good effect on my SEO Campaign for this blog.

I hope this will result better navigation of my site.

So no wonder why Some of the big site that I know does not have any Mybloglog widget on it. Maybe they knew that it will create tons of outgoing links from their site.

So my remedy is to decrease the people appearing at the box. I have now put 4 rows with 1 column. With this method I am decreasing the outgoing followed links. And no wonder why Mybloglog site has PR7.

I will still try to play with their codes. Maybe I could do something to insert no-follow tag with the outgoing links.

Or maybe somebody have already figure out on how to put no follow rel tags at MyBlogLog.

Update : Marhgil answers this question thru comments as follows :

A link from a javascript code is inaccessible from the eyes of Google bot. If it’s inaccessible, it cannot follow it. So, there’s no leakage going on since Mybloglog widget code is in javascript.

I have decided to discontinu myblog log because of timing of page load.

My Search Engine referral is increasing day by day, either from Yahoo and Google. This gives me to think on how I could help visitors to have a better navigation in my blog. It gives me an idea to include the tag links that I use in each of my post.

I actually get the PHP code from WordPress Codex and since I am familiar with the template already I easily get the exact location where I would like the tags to appear.

I just follow the code provided as follows and insert to my preferred location :

Separated by a Bullet

Displays links to tags with a bullet (•) separating the tags and preceded with the text Tagged with: and followed by a line break.

After I have successfully implemented the Tag links in my post page , the below screen shot shows the tags that I used for the post. Although I don’t put tags on my previous post before the release of WordPress 2.3.2, I will now start putting this tags in all my future post.

So if your template does not support the tag you may want to try tweaking using this code.

You might ask what is the importance of Tag ? And how I can easily put the WordPress Tags without login to my WordPress Dashboard? Well I am preparing a post regarding that matter.

Above mentioned site are now at the 1st and 2nd Page of the SERP. So I begin thinking on how I can use their referral to my blog in a way that I could monetize from those visitors thru Adsense and also to promote my blog to them . So what I did, is to look for a plugin that will redirect those traffic in my other post in random from this blog.

After long search I found Urban Giraffe

It is good that I found this Redirection Plugin. It will redirect any of your post to any post within your blog, You might also set it to redirect to a random post at your blog. By this you will have a chance to have additional visitors and feed subscribers. I choose to redirect the post into random rather than redirecting them into front page. Since my Optimize Adsense is on the post page. One more thing great about this plug in is you don’t have to modify your apache setting.

I am using WordPress 2.3.2. So that you know that it does not make any conflict with my WordPress system.

The additional feature of this blog is it will also gives you information on what part of your blog is being crawled by search engine that provides an ERROR 404. So if you really don’t have that URL you can always redirect it to your front Page.

I hope this post will help some blogger that would like to monetize those high traffic with STOP words.

By the way after implementing this redirection I have seen an increase with my Adsense Earnings. Somebody might say that this is not good for the visitors but in reality this site is not made for those Stop Words.

How to put RSS feeds Links in Blogspot?

It is rather easy to put feeds links in Blogspot since it is readily available for their Dashboard. Just follow the bellow instruction

1. Go to Dashboard >>> Setting >>> Site Feed >>> Post Feed Footer
2. Enter the HTML Code linking to any post or Website that you like to link.
3. You must also set “Enable Post Pages” to “Yes” (in Archiving settings) [ Dashboard >>> Setting >>> Archiving >>> Post Feed Footer
4. Set “Allow Blog Feeds” to “Full” (above).

And so there you have it. You can now put links to your feeds. Many bloggers does not know that this links is also an effective way to advertise and add some juice to their site.

How to put RSS Feed Links in WordPress ?

Unlike Blogspot self hosted WordPress does not have an ready available option to this but instead a wordpress user can add a plugin that will be suitable for this task. Daily Blog Tips has written a post regarding this task ( Add a Footer to Your RSS Feed: 7 Practical Examples ) which also gives the following wordpress plugin. BTW I am using RSS Signature for this blog with WordPress 2.3.2 installed

How will this help with SEO (Search Engine Optimization ) of a certain page or site ?

It helps in many ways, If there are website that are getting your feed links in order to promote on their site. This links will give real juice in your blog or blog post. ( in other words scrapers ).

When Google , Yahoo, Bing or any Search Engines crawls went to a feed site it will automatically crawl on the footer that will also leads at your Site.

This is also one way of protecting your post from those site ( scrapers ) stealing blog contents via feeds. Hope You like it.

The Related Plug-in Post is called Aizatto’s Related Posts it returns a list of the related entries based on active/passive keyword matches. Inspired by Related Posts  By  Ezwan Aizat Bin Abdullah Faiz.

It can give you the following options, which I believed is very good specially it can post the excerpt of the related post. In which you cannot see in other related plug-Ins. Below are the options you could make.

How many related posts would you like to show?:

Limit number of words in Title:

Show excerpt?

Number of excerpts to show

Excerpt length (No. of characters):

Show only on the post’s page?

Show related posts on pages?

Show in RSS feeds?

Show posts that were posted after the main post was posted ?

And if your are adept in CSS you can even change the CSS. Below is the snap shot on what you can see at the footer of your post page.

How this Help You gain more reader?

By this kind of plug-in you re giving your reader a glimpse on what you have posted in the past or present. The trick is your first sentence should always be catchy so that when somebody read it in the related post it may get their attention and click it.

So that’s it.. I think it works since as per my Google Analytics, I have an average of 2.5 Page per Visit, Which good at this stage.

I am running a WordPress 2.2 version and I have not yet tested this in WordPress 2.3 ” Dexter”. The reality is I am new to WordPress and I am still learning it.
