It is great NEWS to hear that Mozilla CEO John Lilly announced that Firefox Mobile Alphas coming “in a few weeks”

In an interview that started with Mozilla CEO John Lilly explaining how he runs the company to San Jose Mercury News reporter Pete Carey, it was revealed that the first Firefox Mobile alphas could be released in “a few weeks.”

I have discussed Firefox Mobile (codenamed Fennec) in the past saying that we should see an Alpha pre-version hopefully before the end of the year if it’s ready.

Mobile Firefox will be a great competitor of Opera Mini which I also tested before. The only problem I got with Opera Mini, is it expiration. But I must say that Opera Mini Rocks and has a great features. I stop using Opera Mini because for a simple reason that it expires and They are asking me to buy the software.Why should I need to buy a browser where I can get it for free ?

Mobile Firefox will be a great add-on for my Nokia E71 if it will be released soon. I hope it will be released before the end of this year.

At present I am using Internet Explorer for my PDA. And I must say that I am not that satisfied. I like Opera Mini, but since my trial period is finished , I was not able to purchase one.

So it is good to know that Mozilla is now thinking for Mobile users.

They following points italized have discussed and my comments follows :

The design will consider two scenarios : touch screen enabled devices like most PDAs and smart phones and those were screen navigation is performed with a keyboard or similar, like most cell phones.

This is great since we must admit that not all phone user uses PDA, still the majority of the users are using the smart Phones. and in reality smart phone is more affordable.

The main window looks very clean with a thin title bar, a main toolbar that can be hidden by tapping on the title bar and features a refresh/stop button, a location/search bar and Firefox 3-style star/bookmarks button.

Above mentioned feature is nice. Even the interface is great.

A tap in the location/search bar calls the device on-screen keyboard to enter either a web address or search terms.The press the Go button to visit the web address, the search button to perform a search or cancel.

The star button displays the list of bookmarks on a single tap. Double tap to bookmark the current page.

Another good features since in Internet explorer one has to got to favorites in the below part of the navigation.

Zoom-In and Zoom-Out buttons do a full page zooming (images included) just like Firefox 3 will do. You can then pan a web page by tapping and dragging around.

This is cool since Internet explorer does not have this feature

Mozilla is also providing XUL prototypes, (I used the touch screen enabled one for the screenshots ), so you can try the proposed interface on a working prototype with a few limitations though.

Make sure to read the complete specifications.

This is a great move for Mozilla. I have been asking for this feature since last year. I like the screen capture shown above. the elegance it has. It is just good.

However will it be paid or free ?

With those changes in the mobile world. I believe you should be thinking now of making your blog a mobile ready site and enrolling to Admob for monetizing your site. The decision is your be left behind ? or be on track ?

I have made below some shots taken form my I-Mate PDAL , One is my Deskstop and the other one is my mobile enabled site as I discussed before.

Ahhhh one more thing, TechieGirl forget to inform that it should be installed in the Phone Memory to work. Since when I try to install the software, I tried to install it at the Memory Card and after installation it does not go to the function.

I am still using Windows Mobile Browser since this is pre installed with my PDAL. I tried to installed Opera Mini before but the trial period starts.

Do you suggest any browser other than Iexplore.

I just had an i-mate PDAL 2 mos ago and here is my review for it.

Cellphone

As a phone I may say that i-mate PDAL is not really good compared to Nokia Cellphone Since sometimes I am having a hard time to hear what others person is saying. It is sometimes hard to stop or hung up the phone.

PDA

I think as a PDA, i-mate PDAL is great in my 2 mos of usage it hungs only once, during my early usage of this phone. I have installed my bible thru e-sword site and it performs ok.

Office Tools

I have some problem with its excel since whenever I work with excel and tried to edit my previous work I have to rename and save us the document or else if you save it on the same documents it will tell you an error.

Alarm Clock

I may say that this is not design as an alarm clock since the sound is very low while alarming

Internet Usage

You can use it thru Internet but the problem you have to use the built in explorer or else you have to purchase Opera mini but in comparison with Nokia, Windows mobile phone is much more like a deskstop.

If you are subscribe in the Internet which is being paid per kb, this is not advisable but if you are using the net that is being payed per hour I think this is perfect.

The best thing here is you can also use thru Wi Fi connection.

Reminder

This is a very good tool for reminding since the next reminder even if it is before 3 days you can see the list and keep on reminding you what to do.

Battery

The battery is ok,It may stand till 3 days if you are not using heavily. But if you will use it on a heavy usage It will only last a day. The best thing here is the data is not being lost when the battery is drain not unlike other PDA where when the battery is out the data is out also.

Sound

If you will by this just to here music, I recommend no to buy, The sound system is not that sophisticated not like Nokia.

Email

You can view your office email and gmail thru this phone using POP3. I will post later how you could do it.

In general I may say that this phone is perfect for business purpose but if you are looking for a phone for pleasure purpose, you will just waist your money buying i-mate PDAL I suggest by a NOKIA brand model.

This is the review that I could share to you. I am using the i-mate PDAL for about 2 mos and I am satisfied in General on Its perfromance. This is not a paid review.
