Finally ASUS gets official with Eee PC 1008P Seashell: available in hot pink and coffee brown : Here are some pictures as captured by Engadget at CES2010.

Asus Eee PC 1008P is Designed by Karim Rashid, and is powered by Intel’s new Atom N450 processor and features a 10.1-inch display, Windows 7 Home Premium, 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 250GB hard drive, 802.11n WiFi, gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.1, 1.3 megapixel camera, a 3-cell removable battery and a 2.5 pound chassis.

Asus has been the trend setter for the netbook line and I know this will be another great netbook from them. It is I believe an upgrade from Eee PC 1008HA that we have featured here before. It is rumored to have priced of $499 .

Just want to introduced the latest line of Asus Eee PC , called Asus Eee PC 1008HA ‘Seashell’ netbook, this netbook has bee introduced last march but I have not blog about it.

I know it has been along time since I told you that I am unboxing my Asus Eee PC, but due to unavoidable circumstances in Real Life it took me some time to finish the review.

Before doing review for this unit, I would like to let you know the specs : Processor of Atom N270 with 1.60 Ghz, Genuine Windows XP Home Edition, 160 Gb Hard Disk, 8.9” Crystal brite Display, Built In Webcam and Wifi

So here is my take for this netbook.

Mobility

First of all , I f you are looking for a mobility , netbook is definitely for you. Of course you will not opt to bring 17” laptop wherever you go because it will surely bother you. Netbook is design for mobility that is why I can that when it comes to mobility The Asus Eee PC is great because of it’s size and weight.

User Interface

The user interface is ok since it is pre installed with Microsoft XP bundles with Microsoft Open Office. I usually do minor calculation while out of home and office so this machine is perfect for me. It is also pre installed with Microsoft Powerpoint Viewer so it is also perfect for One on One Presentation with any of your client.

Te interface is just like a normal PC although the size is small.

Keyboard

It is a netbook so what will you expect, Of course it has a small keyboard but a bigger keyboard compared to other netbook available in the market. Sometimes I am connecting an external keyboard if my kids are using my other laptop at house.

Wi-fi Connection

The unit is design for mobility and Internet connection anywhere and I believe it serves it’s purpose, I am using Wifi connection at house and even on the farthest part of my house where other laptops does not have signal, it can still give me a bar or signal strength. So the Wi-Fi Connection is great. { See the Philippine Free Wi-Fi Hotspot }

Sound System

I believe this is one of the weak point of this machine. The sound is not that great when you use to vie You Tube or any other Video in the net. You have to use your headset in order to understand what you are watching. And don’t expect to have a very good voice quality. So if you are thinking of using this as your mobile Video I don’t think this is for you.

Monitor

8.9” is ok for me although there are some website that I am having hard time to view since I have to scroll it down often so that I can read what ever is the site content.

Power Consumption

Since it is small the power consumption is also small. After full charging, the battery can last for about 2 to 3 hours of continues Internet Browsing.

E-Book reader

Yes it can be your e-book reader since it works well with PDF documents. If I have to choose of buying Kindle VS Netbook, I would choose this one.

PDA Vs Netbook

The cost of PDA is almost the same as the cost of Netbook , If you will have to ask me on which will I choose a PDA or a netbook, I will tell you to buy a Netbook and buy a cheap mobile phone. I use PDA before and it is not usually serving it’s purpose when it comes to internet browsing, Which is my main purpose before when I bought my I-mate PDAL.

Storage

I would recommend to partner this unit with a mobile hard disk since this unit is not design to load up lots of Videos and songs Even the storage capacity is 160 GB, I would suggest not to use up the hard Disk.

Webcam

Webcam is ok but not that clear compared to our Vaio. But the unit is also great for chatting.

Other Comments :

1) The unit Boots up easily so it is not having some problem to enter Windows system. Having a 1 GB RAM is great for this unit.

2) This unit should be partnered with a Mobile hard disk for you to be satisfied of it’s use.

3) Check your fingers first before buying this Netbook , if it’s big, it is a big “NO” for You.

4) I also like it’s charger since it is small and I can easily put it in a small bag.

My Over all Experience with Asus Eee PC is great and I recommend you to buy this product if you are thinking of having a mobile blogging lifestyle.

People are really doing everything to lessen their work. First Touch screen was introduced in Mobile Phone and now almost all Monitor manufacturer are doing their best to bring this technology in Big Screen. Asus is also trying to compete with other brands that introduceds this one already such as HP Touchsmart. The 15.6-inch touch screen coupled with ASUS’ touch-friendly user interface (having an XP / Atom N270 underpinning) and great design definitely like a winner. Eee Top will be making in Shipping Stateside in "a few weeks" especially for a $599 ( as per Engadget ). I may not have this amount to buy for this PC but I will definitely check it out when it hit the nearby store.

I am thinking of buying a netbook, so that I can bring it anywhere but due to lots of netbook being shown in the market it makes me think twice and wait for a better choice. I have seen Eee PC and Aspire one being sold in Saudi Market for a reasonable price. ( range from Saudi Riyals 1200 to 2000 = Php 14,000 to 24,000 )

So if you are not yet purchasing your netbook like me, There is a good news to us. Asus released an improved Eee PC 901 with 3G Capability called (named 3.75G by Asus).

Here in Saudi Arabia we have lots of nurses leaving in the hospital accommodation and some of them does not have an Internet connection at their room accommodation, So they usually pay a lot by connecting their mobile phone thru their laptop just to get connection. Although most of the time they fail to connect. And there are lots of OFW leaving in a isolated place where Internet connection is not available.

The 3.75G equipped Eee PC will allow users to download data at up to 7.2Mbps. Asus are launching the 3.75G equipped Eee PC 901 in October this year, so expect most phone companies to start offering this laptop for free when purchasing a plan with a contract.

Taipei, Taiwan, September 24, 2008 – ASUS today announced that it will be adding 3.75G connectivity* to its hugely-popular series of Eee PC™ netbooks, enabling convenient and high-speed access to the Internet anytime, anywhere. The inclusion of 3.75G is a perfect addition to the Eee PC’s™ existing set of travel-friendly features such as its high portability, shockproof data storage and all-day battery life—strengthening its reputation as the ultimate solution for computing on the go.

With 3.75G, the Eee PC™ will be able to deliver on its promise of borderless one-day computing better than ever before. No longer bound to Internet hotspots, 3.75G-equipped Eee PC™ users will be able to enjoy low latency mobile broadband Internet access at high downlink and uplink speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and 2 Mbps** respectively, regardless of where they are—ensuring a seamless connected experience on the go. The Eee PC’s™ 7.5-hour battery life*** provides more than ample power to keep it up and running during extended outdoor excursions.

Frequent travelers will particularly welcome the timely addition of 3.75G support, which comes as service providers around the globe are ramping up their adoption of 3.75G High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA). This means that they will be assured of a reliable, high-speed mode of Internet access in many destinations around the world.

3.75G will make its first appearance in Eee PC™ 901 netbooks released to market from October 2008 onward.

ASUS have designed the computers to suit different user such as Business Executives which has ASUS B50 , and other notebooks series such as F6 Notebook Series and ASUS F8 Notebook with lots of color to choose from. They also want to make gamers happy thru their Gaming Laptop – G71 and G50 ROG Notebooks

You can see the specification and details below.

We don’t have yet the price details for the following Lap Tops. Now I am puzzled maybe they intentionally make the ASUS Eee PC Leaked so that competitors will be focused on those units and not this one. Well It might be a Marketing Strategy.

After Asus had launch lots of netbook with a good price, Lenovo has also revealed more information of its upcoming netbook models, the 10.2-inch IdeaPad S10 and 8.9-inch IdeaPad S9. Both netbooks will launch in the China market in September with availability likely in October, according to the company.

Here is the specification :

The IdeaPad S9 includes an 8GB SSD while the S10 has an 80GB hard drive. Both will feature an Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB memory, Express Card slot, two USB ports, a 4-in-1 card reader and webcam.

Both models use the same industrial design and have a keyboard that is only 15% smaller than a traditional keyboard. Additionally, both models feature an LED backlit panel, weight around 1kg, and will be offered with either Linux or Windows XP.

The IdeaPad S9 will be priced at NT$12,900 (US$418.99) and the IdeaPad S10 will cost NT$17,900, Lenovo detailed.

This is a very good competition of ASUS Eee PC which was previously posted in this blog. I still don’t have netbook but I am thinking of purchasing in the future. We still have to wait when it will be out in Philippines

So if this is really going to pursue. There will be lots of Eee PC in the Market. I am still waiting for Asus Eee PC 1000 here in Saudi Arabia. I am planning to buy one. But it is still a plan.

Above slide also shows that Eee PC will also release an Slim Version. But Of all the computer manufacturers it is always Asus having some leak is it intentional as part of their marketing strategy or it is just a coincidence?

Well that is Marketing.
