This year is a great year for Tech At Hand Dot Net, a year when I experience lots of things from high traffic, to Google AdSense ban, Panda update bomb and many more. But this year is the most fruitful year for me when it comes to financial blessings through this blog and my other blogs. So let me itemized the great things and opportunities that happen to me this year.

Here are some points to encourage new bloggers:

1. I manage to earn a net online income of six digit in Philippine Peso for one month and a constant five digit in Philippine Peso per month. (I am not a full-time blogger)
2. This year, I understood the importance of having collaboration and getting new ideas for this blog. I learn that blogging could be a business and I could enjoy blogging without being burn out. [ Blog as an investment ]
3. We were hit by Panda update and the traffic goes down to 50%. Some of the keywords which I am ranking for years have been hit by SEO Panda update. It’s an opportunity because it urge me to study again the new techniques of SEO nowadays. I started reading updates from different SEO blog that I am subscribed before.
4. We were given the Tech Blog Award by PEBA.
5. My blog earnings manage to pay the monthly amortization of our lot purchased at Antel Grand Village (It’s 27 T per month)
6. I have learned other sources of blog income aside from AdSense. Special thanks to Nuffnang and Marimedia.
7. We manage to close deals with some advertisers in this blog.
8. After my AdSense ban, I was able to know that Chitika (I reinstate my Chitika  gold account after the ban) also pays good and a great AdSense alternative.
9. Tech At Hand manage to have a new advertisers..
10. I have manage to increase my domains to 30+, some of them is just a protection domain to those earning domains. It is my prevention from domain squatting.

Below is a screen shot of my blog performance this year 2011, I manage to get 1 million Unique Visitors and 1.4 Million Page views. It is actually double than last year visit. As you can see Panda update have really affected our traffic. The big drop of traffic actually happen at mid of October. We have not yet recovered on that update. But I do hope that future update will be good for us. It was only on December when I manage to get back the AdSense of this blog. No AdSense in my blog from January to November of this year. But I still manage to get my online income as shown in #1. I have now reduced intrusive ads and replace it with AdSense.

There is really money in blogging, you just have to concentrate on what you are doing and think out of the box. Don’t forget to get some advise from others. Collaboration is also good. I will post y plan for next year by next week.

Yesterday, a new solution called Spire has been released in the public by a coder known as chpwn. The apps aims to install Siri on Jailbroken iPhone. Check their statement below as s:

Spire is my (along with Ryan Petrich) new tool for installing Siri on previously unsupported, but jailbroken, devices. Spire is a small download, but while installing it will download Siri itself (directly from Apple). Spire is available in Cydia right now — go get it!This will use about 100 MB of data, so please connect to Wi-Fi before installing.

The coder claims that this new tool has no copyright issues. But it needs to download 100 MB files from Apple server. Spire allows users to specify their own proxy server. Furthermore, Spire is still not a complete solution. Apple still requires authorization to use Siri, so information from an iPhone 4S is still required, the coder added.

Note: We have not yet tested this new application and downloading this application is at users own risk. It is just being reported in this blog. However we welcome comments and thoughts about the subject.

PayPal has launched the NFC mobile payment to retailers this holiday season in Sweden as the pilot location. According to Mobile Payments Today, it is a first ever test that PayPal initiated to gather response from customers and merchants as part of its strategy before a wider roll out in 2012.

PayPal teamed up with Alpingaraget and Webhallen to make the program possible. Both were Swedish retailers based in Stockholm locations: with Alpingaraget, a leading provider of ski and sports equipment, while Webhallen is specialized in electronics.

Both retailers will require an app, called PayPal Instore, from customers to have their smartphones affixed with NFC stickers to be able to make a purchase through the point-of-sale machines. This app is available for download on iPhone and Android smartphones.

Customers with PayPal account may use the service through a link of app to NFC tag information. Simply tap the mobile close to an NFC (Near field communication) enabled Point AB reader, and the items to be purchased will appear then followed by confirmation and transaction is completed.

In a related story, Smart Communication Philippines also launched NFC enabled payment for mobile phone earlier this month called Tap2Pay. Smart offered a free smart money account for Nokia C7 owners with starting balance of P50 to promote the project.

It is anticipated that Kindle fire will grab the #2 spot as the best-selling tablet next to iPad by the end of this year despite some complaints the device is getting from users. That’s why Amazon is quick to response to issues that need immediate attention in order not to disappoint existing customers.

The recent one is the upgrade of the “Silk Browser” to version 6.2.1 to discuss the complaint of slow and the occasional not responding browsing experience. According to Amazon, the new version, “enhances fluidity and performance, improves touch navigation responsiveness, gives you the option to choose which items display on the carousel, and adds the ability to add a password lock on Wi-Fi access.”

This is good news for the existing users since they can automatically get the latest version 6.2.1 once an update perform on the device through WiFi as confirmed by Amazon site, and it is free to download.

Although concerns of parental control and easy access to owner’s account without having a password on Kindle fire are still the main concerns from parents/customers that need to be resolved according to some reports.

Kindle fire seems unstoppable from maintaining the fire. In fact recent report says that Kindle fire is shifting the trend from hard copy books publishing to e-books.

Google will likely to produce its own tablet mid next year according to the report as Google Chairman Eric Schmidt was quoted in an interview with Italian newspaper, “in the next six months we plan to market a tablet of the highest quality.”

Mobile enthusiasts believe that the comment of Eric Schmidt starts of the fiercest competition to leading brand iPad and Amazon Kindle Fire which is said to be the close rival tablet to date.

Following the acquisition of Motorola, Google will likely to align the new tablet with Nexus series of devices. For sure it will not be just one of those devices that will be just pushed around after being compared to iPad and Kindle fire.

The question if Google will manufacture its own tablet and to sell it, is another guess and only time can tell. But definitely Google will deliver its promise as the development of an app called “Majel” is on its way early next year. This app, also known as a mystery voice-assistant is obviously intended to challenge Siri of Apple iPhone 4s.

This is going to be an exciting event to look forward to in the future, with Google search to compete the giant Apple and Amazon.  Sound like Google is invading the world.

It took me some time to sync my iPad 2 to a new computer. I just decided to sync my iPad 2 to my office computer since most of the time I am in the office. My iPad was previously synced to my home computer.

I normally sync the iPad after having new purchases and if I download new e-book.

So my problem before syncing was, “how to transfer my application and files from my iPad 2 to a newly installed iTunes in my office computer?”. Upon pressing sync, iTunes tells me that it will erase all the application in my iPad 2 and install any application from my newly installed iTunes. (It is obvious, that there is no application at all, since it is a new installation). At first I assume that the flow of data in iTunes is only one way which is from computer to iPad only. How did I managed to transfer the files from iPad 2 to my newly installed iTunes? Below is the process on How I did it :

1. Install the latest iTunes in your new computer.
2. Connect your iPad 2 to your computer via USB.
3. Press “File” then “Transfer Purchase form iPad” – It will transfer all your purchase application both free and paid apps from your iPad to your newly installed iTunes.
4. Then press the application and press sync
5. iTunes will not automatically tick all the installed application. So you have to do it manually.
6. Then Choose whatever application you still want to install. This will be the same procedure for the purchased and installed e-book in iBook.

if you happen to press “sync” before transferring the purchased application from your iPad, you may still go to “iTunes Store”, sign-in and  then press “Purchased Application”. The windows will show you the paid or free applications that you have downloaded before.  Then you can just download the application that you want and then sync it to the iPad. You can now follow the instruction above starting on item # 4.

Now I can upload Pdf files using PDF Reader Pro Edition using my office computer. I use to transfer files using drop box while I am outside my home..

For information I am using iOs 5, iTunes 10.5.2.11 and a Windows 7 PC. I don’t know if this will be the same procedure with other version. I took me some time to figure on how to do it. This instruction might help iPad owner in the future. iPad is only allowed to be synced in 1 computer.

There is a search function and bookmark function for this application. The most helpful feature of this application is it’s ability to mark and highlight part of the document for future reference, a function that is not available through iBook.

You may also send your commented pages through e-mail. It also support iCloud, as long as your device is now updated to iOs 5.

Dictionary support for comments is available.

You can also transfer all your pdf files from e-mail to PDF reader Pro Edition for iPad. The iPad built in e-mail application shall be used to make this to work. It does not work with mail application that comes from Gmail.

You can properly structure your files folders by making folders and subfolders. However once the document has been shifted from one folder to another folder, the bookmarks will not be usable.  Bookmarks is only directed to the original document location when bookmarked. Files can be moved or copy from folder to folder.

I think the missing feature is converting any documents to PDF file type. I have not seen it’s capability to turn any document to PDF.

Marking includes, Text Highlight, Stickie comments, Notes, Signature,Free Highlight, Free drawing, line, arrow, stamp and more. Documents can be easily printed if AirPrint Printers are available. So any information that you want to share about this application. $9.99 is worth for it’s function.

Prior to the scheduled release of the iPad3 at the end of first-quarter of 2012, Apple seems not taking lightly the presence of smaller size tablets such as the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet and other bigger smartphones to dominate the 7inch PC.

Sources from Digitimes reported that, Apple will likely to release its version of 7.85-inch iPad tablet before April 2012 to retain its edge over its competitor in the tablet market.

If this report is true, this will be a very interesting 2012 for the tablet trend since Kindle Fire is gaining momentum with its popular and vast support of digital products from its creator, the Amazon.com. Of course, Apple also has its own wide support of from iTunes. But the main issues here are the price, apps and features which definitely will make a difference when that day comes.

Apple’s iPad 7.85 inch model is projected to be available early of third quarter of 2012 once the production starts in the second quarter as hinted by makers of the supply chain source.
