In a recent post from Google Inside search blog, they have informed the public that they are making an algorithm changes that will affect the Page Layout of the site. The change says that user experience is of high importance to Google and it will penalized those site that has lots of ads on it. The key point of the post is about user experience, what Google want to see is that whenever a user enter a certain site, user should see the article or content immediately and not the different ads that a site owner usually do.

We all know that those spot is the highly paid spot that gives us earnings. I have reduced some of the ads, just to comply with their latest change. But I am still looking for some ways on how I could change the layout. I believe that my homepage follows Google’s requirement. I just have to tweak the post page.

According to the post this change affect only 1% of the whole searches and this is only 1 out of 500 changes that they will be doing this year. We need to make our site in a way that it will give a great user experience.

I did some changes by moving my email opt-in form and one of my 468×60 banner below the post. I hope it will improve my site performance. Remember that following Google’s suggestion is one way to earn more from search engine visits.

Google is becoming more transparent, just lately they have blog about the changes that they have made last December. Just for information, I have felt the changes for this blog just after new year.

Here’s the list for December: Google Inside Search

• Image Search landing page quality signals. [launch codename “simple”] This is an improvement that analyzes various landing page signals for Image Search. We want to make sure that not only are we showing you the most relevant images, but we are also linking to the highest quality source pages.
• More relevant sitelinks. [launch codename “concepts”, project codename “Megasitelinks”] We improved our algorithm for picking sitelinks. The result is more relevant sitelinks; for example, we may show sitelinks specific to your metropolitan region, which you can control with your location setting.
• Soft 404 Detection. Web servers generally return the 404 status code when someone requests a page that doesn’t exist. However, some sites are configured to return otherstatus codes, even though the page content might explain that the page was not found. We call these soft 404s (or “crypto” 404s) and they can be problematic for search engines because we aren’t sure if we should ignore the pages. This change is an improvement to how we detect soft 404s, especially in Russian, German and Spanish. For all you webmasters out there, the best practice is still to always use the correct response code.
• More accurate country-restricted searches. [launch codename “greencr”] On domains other than .com, users have the option to see only results from their particular country. This is a new algorithm that uses several signals to better determine where web documents are from, improving the accuracy of this feature.
• More rich snippets. We improved our process for detecting sites that qualify for shopping, recipe and review rich snippets. As a result, you should start seeing more sites with rich snippets in search results.
• Better infrastructure for autocomplete. This is an infrastructure change to improve how our autocomplete algorithm handles spelling corrections for query prefixes (the beginning part of a search).
• Better spam detection in Image Search. [launch codename “leaf”] This change improves our spam detection in Image Search by extending algorithms we already use for our main search results.
• Google Instant enhancements for Japanese. For languages that use non-Latin characters, many users use a special IME (Input Method Editor) to enter queries. This change works with browsers that are IME-aware to better handle Japanese queries in Google Instant.
• More accurate byline dates. [launch codename “foby”] We made a few improvements to how we determine what date to associate with a document. As a result, you’ll see more accurate dates annotating search results.
• Live results for NFL and college football. [project codename “Live Results”] We’ve added new live results for NFL.com and ESPN’s NCAA Football results. These results now provide the latest scores, schedules and standings for your favorite football teams.
• Improved dataset for related queries. We are now using an improved dataset on term relationships to find related queries. We sometimes include results for queries that are related to your original search, and this improvement leads to results from more relevant related queries.
• Related query improvements. [launch codename “lyndsy”] Sometimes we fetch results for queries that are related to the original query but have fewer words. We made several changes to our algorithms to make them more conservative and less likely to introduce results without query words.
• Better lyrics results. [launch codename “baschi”, project codename “Contra”] This change improves our result quality for lyrics searches.
• Tweak to +1 button on results page. As part of our continued effort to deliver a beautifully simple user experience across Google products, we’ve made a subtle tweak to how the +1 button appears on the results page. Now the +1 button will only appear when you hover over a result or when the result has already been +1’d.
• Better spell correction in Vietnamese. [project codename “Pho Viet”] We launched a new Vietnamese spelling model. This will help give more accurate spelling predictions for Vietnamese queries.
• Upcoming events at venues. We’ve improved the recently released places panel for event venues. For major venues, we now show up to three upcoming events on the right of the page. Try it for [staples center los angeles] or [paradise rock club boston].
• Improvements to image size signal. [launch codename “matter”] This is an improvement to how we use the size of images as a ranking signal in Image Search. With this change, you’ll tend to see images with larger full-size versions.
• Improved Hebrew synonyms. [launch codename “SweatNovember”, project codename “Synonyms”] This update refines how we handle Hebrew synonyms across multiple languages. Context matters a lot for translation, so this change prevents us from using translated synonyms that are not actually relevant to the query context.
• Safer searching. [launch codename “Hoengg”, project codename "SafeSearch"] We updated our SafeSearch tool to provide better filtering for certain queries when strict SafeSearch is enabled.
• Encrypted search available on new regional domains. Google now offers encrypted search by default on google.com for signed-in users, but it’s not the default on our other regional domains (eg: google.fr for France). Now users in the UK, Germany and France can opt in to encrypted search by navigating directly to an SSL version of Google Search on their respective regional domains: https://www.google.co.uk, https://www.google.de and https://www.google.fr.
• Faster mobile browsing. [launch codename “old possum”, project codename “Skip Redirect”] Many websites redirect smartphone users to another page that is optimized for smartphone browsers. This change uses the final smartphone destination url in our mobile search results, so you can bypass all the redirects and load the target page faster.

I have seen changes in the Google algorithm in Philippine based keywords. Since I optimized with Philippine related keywords and my Google webmaster is set to Philippines, I have noticed an improvement in Philippine traffic. Actually other bloggers have also felt the same as seen in their reply at my Facebook comment. It seems that the dates in the blog post is also important since they are getting signals from the date. Image is always important in every post. The update shows that they have change some algorithm about the image search, make sure that you have images in every post that you make.

In addition make sure that the image is relevant with the post that you are posting.

But what amaze me is that they never discuss about the Panda that hit 40-50% of my visitors.

In my over all observation I think changes is positive for this blog. I have increased about 10% to 20% of visitors from search. More visitors will definitely mean more income for this blog. Google keep giving me visitors.

Among the 11 items in the list, I was not able to do the schema.org, I still need to do some research about that topic. I was also penalized by Panda, and this blog lost almost half of the search engine visitor. I am still struggling on Google+, my visitors seldom shares at their Google+ page, or most of my visitor does not have Google+.

Good and great post will always secure your ranking in the future. Engaging in Black Hat will not secure your SEO effort in the future. You will always have doubt and stress. But I would like to emphasize that Black Hat is different than Automation. Just my belief.

I could say that, I was not able to do something on most of the changes as mentioned above. It only means that I do need to do more research about SEO this 2012. I always remember a saying that “SUCCESS is the greatest enemy of Learning” the moment you meet your success you stop learning, and this is what happen to me last year. I do hope it will not happen this 2012. It should be “Success comes with great responsibility and Continues learning is a must in order to be successful ”. Success will also mean more money online as well as more friends online.

Most Filipinos are now anticipating the fight results of Manny Pacquiao VS Juan Marquez III, some says that this fight will be another win for Cong. Manny Pacquiao “Pacman” but nobody knows who will really win on this bout. Pacquiao Vs Marquez Rematch will be on November 12, 2011.

But did you know that aside from Manny Pacquaio and Juan Marquez fight in the ring, there is another match which is going on in SEO field. I used to do the same before when this site had AdSense enabled.

This might be due to the latest Google algorithm change “Fresh”, as reported earlier on this blog. Bloggers who will get the first place in the SERP with those keywords will definitely earn lots of dollars from advertisers.

According to the recent official blog post of Google, they informed that they have rolled out a Google Update called “Fresh“, Google Fresh updates will apparently affect about 35% of the search results. We have not yet felt the recent change of Google Algorithm but we will surely watch the changes. There are also some post that says time stamp will definitely play a major role on this update since Google fresh aims to give fresh results in the SERP. As an update to this blog, I have now reinstated my time stamp, which I deleted since year 2008. I have stated  before for a reason as shown here.

You may see Search Engine Watch recent post noting that “groupon ipo” search results shows fresh results from the serp. The latest of the result is only a day old.

If it is really true that Google will give weight on the freshness of the result, I think blog and News site will benefit from this and those with old post that are ranking on a certain product will definitely be affected. But of course I still believe that Google will continue to watch the content of  blogs.

With all this Google update it is clear that Google wants to give their user a great experience on searching the recent result of user search.

According to Search Engine Land Google has confirmed that Google Panda Update 2.5 is seen this week.  There were no specifics about the Google Panda update. A Google employee reported stating about Google idea about the recent update as mentioned below :

We’re continuing to iterate on our Panda algorithm as part of our commitment to returning high-quality sites to Google users. This most recent update is one of the roughly 500 changes we make to our ranking algorithms each year.

Webpronews further reported on how Daniweb losses half of the 370K page views a day last Wednesday. Daniweb is an IT discussion forum that had received the first blow of Google Panda Update last February. Daniweb is recovering already and claims to have 110% percent recovery from February update until Wednesday when it was hit again by the recent Panda Update.

I have seen minor drop of traffic in some of my keywords but not the entire site. According to different articles that can be sen on the internet, Google Panda Update focus at on-site optimization. It only means that your site should have a good way of having on-site optimization. Interlinking your article will also help.

But of course all Google Panda update targets the crap site, and those site that is not giving value to its reader. So if your site falls under this category, there is a big chance that Google Panda Update 2.6 will hit those site.

Questions,When Making Blog Post.

1. Will this blog post interest my 4500+ feeds subscribers ?

And here are the things I am doing if my answer is “NO” to the above mentioned questions,

1. if my answers is no, and I still want to post about it, I will usually make the post to appear on my sidebar and not sending it across my subscribers. So in short, I am making the post for bots and search engine for keywords hijacking. Check my blog post when I say that there is now no hidden post in this blog
2. If my answer is no , and I still want to post the topic, I will just change the title using ALL in One WordPress Plugin
3. Same method for number is being implemented.
4. I just make sure that I have enough keywords in my blog post that will not bother my readers.
5. I normally do not post about it, as an example if there are some news in the net in which it does not go with my belief, then I will just pass the opportunity on writing about it.

More Tips When Making Blog Post :

1. If I I had a hard time getting information in the net. I will blog about the result of my research, chances are there are no bloggers post about it and there are no competition on this particular keywords.Normally those kind of keywords are being searched by internet users who clicks the ads.
2. Long post is not always best for readers. Most of the time they just look at the post title, then scan the post,  and then go to the comments section without reading the full article. So why aim for a long post? I believe having 200 to 300 words is enough for a normal post.
3. Don’t forget to add pictures/images in your post, it does not only good for your readers but also good for search engine optimization, provided that a proper picture tag is made.
