Intel recently outlined its plans for notebook chips, CULV-based ultra-thin notebook and netbook product lines.
Here are some of the details that I get from digitimes :
Intel’s next-generation Calpella notebook platform will be launch as scheduled in the third quarter 2009 and targeting models in the 14.0-, 15.6-, 17.1- and 18.4-inch segments at retail prices of above US$1,200 initially for high-end market. Meanwhile, Intel will also reduce the price of the Montevina platform ( Intel Centrino 2 ) to clear out inventory. { Calpella will be based on the Nehalem processor architecture, which is the one that follows the current generation 45nm Penryn CPUs, which have just started shipping in the latest notebooks. }
For 12- to 13-inch segment, Intel will push CULV-based ultra-thin notebooks using Montevina CPUs as the major force targeting the US$699-1,100 price range, as well as some traditional notebooks that offer a good performance/price ratio
The Atom N270 and 945GSE chipset combination will start to be phase out of the market in September and will be replaced by the next-generation Atom CPU (Pineview) and (Tiger Point) chipset. The new platform will target the 10-inch netbook segment with prices ranging between US$399-599.
Below is a tabulated platform compiled by digitimes with respect to notebook size and Price.

With the recent updates by Intel it only proves that they are still doing market research even though they are already the leader of the industry. For sure with this latest announcement by Intel, Athlon will release their new chipsets also , or else they will be left behind.
Calpella information has been leaked as early as August last year so Athlon should have done their research.
